A statement from the Rt Revd Martyn Snow, Lord Bishop of Leicester, on the use of AI (artificial intelligence) by church leaders.
Recent news in the diocese has brought some really encouraging stories to light, with a significant rise in baptisms and growing numbers of people coming to church, particularly from global majority heritage backgrounds. But this growth hasn’t happened overnight. It reflects years of intentional work through one of the diocese’s key priorities, Intercultural Communities and the Intercultural Worshipping Community Project.
Bishop Martyn recently met with Father Stefan and members of Leicester’s Romanian Orthodox community. During the visit, he was shown around the church and spoke with the congregation about the challenges they have faced in migrating to Leicester, as well as their desire to play an active part in the city’s community life and wider ecumenical relationships.
Clergy and lay leaders recently gathered for a Bishop’s Study Day on the theme of Christians and Politics, to learn more about how our faith inspires our engagement with social and political issues.
Over the past few months, up until the end of April, a host of Confirmation services have taken place in churches around the Diocese of Leicester, each one a joyful and meaningful celebration.
Bishop Martyn and his Social Policy Advisor, Florence Gildea, have launched a blog designed to help Christian leaders participate in public debates about contested questions. The aim behind “Faith in the Public Square” is to bring evidence from the social sciences together with theology to help readers think through areas of our common life which are the subject of heated debate.
In an opinion piece, written for the Church Times, Bishop Martyn says the patron saint’s day should be used to consider how to foster a healthy kind of patriotism.
The Archbishop of Canterbury will visit dioceses and parishes across the Church of England this year to shine a light on where God is at work in local churches and communities.
Around 120 people from organisations across the city gathered at Leicester Cathedral to mark one year since the launch of the Intercultural City project, to hear about the successes so far, and to make pledges for the future.
