In a display of unity and civic pride, many people came together for the High Sheriff of Leicestershire’s Justice Service at Leicester Cathedral recently.
The collation and installation of the new Archdeacon of Leicester was held on Thursday (2 October) during evensong at Leicester Cathedral. Family, friends, colleagues and church communities came together in celebration and support for the new ministry of the Reverend Richard Trethewey during a service of welcome and commissioning.
A special service to say farewell to the Venerable Richard Worsfold, Archdeacon of Leicester, was held during choral evensong at Leicester Cathedral on Monday 15 September. The congregation was filled with well-wishers, signifying the close friendships, connections and ministries that Richard and his wife Jenny have developed over the last 30 years in the diocese.
Around 800 children participated in free craft activities at Leicester Cathedral during the summer holidays. From archaeology to falcon crafts, clay grotesques and music workshops, a changing offer meant families attended regularly.
A reflective service on the eve of the 80th anniversary of VJ Day (Victory over Japan Day) was held In Leicester Cathedral on Thursday (14 August). The occasion was attended by a congregation including civic dignitaries and esteemed military guests representing the city and county, marking the 80th anniversary of VJ Day and the end of the Second World War.
Leicester Cathedral was host to a special civic service, welcoming the new Lord Mayor of Leicester, Councillor Teresa Aldred. The service, held on Sunday 15 June 2025, was an opportunity to give thanks to God and pray for his blessings upon the City of Leicester, the work of the Lord Mayor, and all who hold public office in the city.
Leicester Cathedral was the site of a poignant and historic gathering last Wednesday (26 March 2025), as the city and county came together to commemorate the tenth anniversary of the reinterment of King Richard III.
Earlier this month, senior members of the diocese and link partner colleagues travelled to Tanzania to visit our Christian brothers and sisters in Kiteto and Mount Kilimanjaro.
Work is progressing on the final stages of building work for Leicester Cathedral’s restoration project, Leicester Cathedral Revealed. Following the removal of scaffolding, the new Heritage & Learning Centre can now be seen, including the external stonework façade, 'veil' of moulded glazed terracotta fins, and copper roof parapet.
A 'Prayer for Peace in Ukraine' Vigil was held at Leicester Cathedral on Monday (24 February 2025) to mark the third anniversary of Russia’s invasion and war against Ukraine.
