The Revd Dr Tom Wilson, Director of the St Philip’s Centre, has written a book titled Safer Faiths, Safer Followers: Understanding and Countering Spiritual Abuse in Faith Communities.
This year the theme of the Safeguarding Sunday campaign is ‘Action Speaks Louder’ – encouraging churches to not just talk about safeguarding but to take positive action towards creating safer places.
During the spring and summer term this year, the theme chosen by young people was Safeguarding, with the listening campaign created in partnership with our Diocesan Safeguarding Team.

Safeguarding Sunday (17 November 2024) is an opportunity for congregations to use their regular Sunday service to listen and talk about how spaces can be created that are safer for everyone, and to celebrate all the good work that is being done by so many behind the scenes.
A service of thanksgiving was held during choral evensong at Leicester Cathedral to mark the work of all those who serve as safeguarding coordinators in the Diocese of Leicester.
The Diocese of Leicester’s Safeguarding team are looking for local survivors to participate in a focus group to help develop a survivor strategy for the Diocese of Leicester and Leicester Cathedral, shaping future care and support for survivors.
We are pleased to welcome Adrienne Plunkett as the new Independent Chair of the Diocesan Safeguarding Oversight Group with effect from 1 January 2023, replacing David Cooper.
Our churches are being invited to mark Safeguarding Sunday with prayer to ask God’s help in becoming a safer place for all.
