Celebrating the Platinum Jubilee

Those knee-deep in Union Jack bunting or busy baking scones by the dozens won’t need reminding it’s The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee this week.

We’ve seen your social media posts and banners around the diocese, inviting people to share in the celebrations.

From open-air worship, bingo and barbeques, to afternoon tea in the church hall, there is something for everyone going on in our parishes.

Churches are an ideal place to bring communities together for the four-day Bank Holiday (June 2 – 5) which ends on Pentecost Sunday, as we celebrate the gift to the church of the Holy Spirit.

It’s an opportunity to reach out in faith to those around us, to come together intergenerationally in prayer and praise, to serve our communities and to celebrate the incredible 70 years of service Her Majesty has accomplished as the head of the Church of England.

Whatever you are getting up to, we wish you a wonderful time. Feel free to tag The Diocese of Leicester in on anything you share!

And to finish, a prayer we can say together on this special occasion…

Gracious God, we give you thanks
for the reign of your servant Elizabeth our Queen,
and for the example of loving and faithful service
which she has shown among us.
Help us to follow her example of dedication
and to commit our lives to you and to one another,
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
