The licensing of an Anglican Chaplain at HMP Fosse Way

The Chapel at HMP Fosse Way was the setting for a service of welcome and commitment to shared ministry, as David Spencer was licensed as Anglican Chaplain of the prison in Leicester just before Christmas (17 December 2023).

David was joined by prison colleagues and fellow clergy, including Kate Hitchcox, the Managing Chaplain at HMP Fosse Way, who presented David to Bishop Martyn for licensing.

Becoming an Anglican Chaplain alongside his role as Associate Minister at Barrow-Upon-Soar with Walton-Le-Wolds, David said: “Being licenced as a prison chaplain is the culmination of a very long and hard journey from being a pastoral assistant. I have wanted for several years to turn my passion of working with adults leaving, or in prison, into a full-time job and now it is a reality.”
