In a joyful service of welcome and commitment to shared ministry, the Revd Riffat Zamurad was recently licensed by Bishop Saju as Vicar of St Mary and St Barnabas, Humberstone, and Christ Church in Thurnby Lodge.
Celebrating her time in the diocese and sharing in her faith journey - from Reader and Churchwarden to where she stands today - Riffat was joined by friends, family, colleagues and parishioners, including those who have walked and worshipped alongside her.
Talking after the service at St Mary's, Riffat said: “The service was a truly joyful and meaningful occasion. Being surrounded by members of the congregations, colleagues, friends, and family made it especially significant.
“There were few standout moments for me,” she added. “The sense of shared prayer and commitment as we dedicated ourselves to the ministry ahead, and Bishop Saju's sermon was so powerful for the time of my licensing and Advent season.”
Reflecting on what the role means to her, Riffat said: “This role is both a privilege and a calling. It means stepping more deeply into serving the people of St Mary’s, St Barnabas, and Christchurch, and walking alongside the community in faith, hope, and love.
“I feel grateful for the opportunity to contribute to the spiritual life and growth of the benefice.”
Speaking about her hope for the churches and community going forward, Riffat continued: “My hope is to help nurture an inclusive, welcoming, and outward-looking church community one that continues to be a place of connection, support, and transformation for all. I look forward to working collaboratively as we discern where God is leading us and how we can best serve the wider neighbourhood.”
