Growing Faith: Prayer Spaces in Schools

A 'prayer space' training course is being held in the diocese during November, to help equip people in their vital work with children and young people across our churches and schools.

Organised by the Diocese of Leicester Board of Education and led by Tim Abbott, GB Team Leader for Prayer Spaces in Schools, the course is suitable for anyone who supports young people in church or their local schools, from clergy, family workers and children and youth leaders, to congregation members, volunteers, and school staff.

Prayer spaces are a fantastic way for church and school to come together, while encouraging and inspiring children and young people to engage with prayer and reflection activities. They give pupils the opportunity to explore prayer in a safe, creative and interactive way and offer a calming, peaceful place in the midst of all the busyness of school life.

Prayer spaces also weave nicely into the Growing Faith initiative - which seeks to connect church, school and home - with these spaces within school being somewhere to invite parents, carers and school staff, with prayerful activities that can be created together for everyone.
Similarly, prayer spaces work well within churches themselves as a way of engaging children, young people and their families.

This training day will inspire you with the vision and practice of prayer spaces, equip you with resources and ideas, and give you the opportunity to try out some of the activities. You’ll also get to see the impact of these spaces through the voices of children, young people and teachers.
Tracey Manns, Diocesan Deputy Director of Education, says: “Prayer spaces are all about giving children and young people space to pause, reflect and understand themselves more, while allowing them the opportunity and invitation to connect to something beyond themselves. They are a fantastic way to develop spirituality in everyone, and are child-led. We welcome our churches to join us for this training.”

The course is being held on Thursday 16 November, 9.45am – 3pm, at Holy Trinity Church, Cleveland Road, Hinckley, LE10 0AJ. Cost is £20.
