Children and Young People Update

There’s so much going on in the world of children and youth ministry and, as growing intergenerational communities and giving a voice to young people is a significant priority for the diocese and wider Church, we thought we’d update you with the latest news and ways you can get involved:

CAMHS - Youth Club Sign Posting Opportunity

Leicester/Leicestershire Child and Adolescent Mental Health services (CAMHS) are looking to holistically support children and young people who are connected with their services and are interested in faith or have faith connections.

They are particularly looking to signpost young people to groups run by churches who can provide a social, non-judgemental space where young people can enjoy activities, grow their confidence and a sense of belonging, to help them where they may feel isolated, struggle with self-esteem, anxiety and stress.

Many young people are experiencing isolation, anxiety and loneliness across our city and county and we know that churches run some brilliant youth social spaces that provide a safe place to belong, make friends and be supported.

If your church has a group that you think might be somewhere to signpost young people and would like to know more, email Lou McGoldrick at spyouth3@gmail.com

Children's Ministry Essentials Course

The Children’s Ministry Essentials Course is a new and exciting resource for children’s ministry.

It is aimed at anyone who is volunteering with children in the church or community; particularly those who wish to grow in confidence, knowledge and ability.

The course takes place over 10 sessions and can be run online or in person. We have funding from the 30k Project to offer a number of free course places. If this would be of interest to you or members of your church, please contact Matt.Long@LeicesterCofE.org to express your interest and help our delivery planning.

RECOGNISE

RECOGNISE is a national week of recognition for everyone involved in ministry with children, young people, and their families (CYPF) running from Monday 7 to Sunday 13 July.

Sunday 13 July is a day for churches nationwide to celebrate and thank those involved in this vital ministry. Within your normal church service on Sunday 13 July, why not give 10 minutes to ‘recognise’ those involved with CYPF Ministry in your church.

Safeguarding Listening Exercise

We have extended the deadline for responses to our latest listening exercise until the end of June. The goal of this exercise is to help find out what makes children and young people feel safe in church.

“We are really excited about this listening exercise and there has never been a more important time to explore this topic,” says Rachael Spiers, Diocesan Safeguarding Adviser. “Hearing the views of children and young people is crucial in trying to make the church a safe place.”

We want to hear more young voices from across the diocese, so could you facilitate a listening group with children or young people in your context?

The listening exercise takes the form of a creative session you can run with any group of children or young people. Simply download the guidebook, take time to listen to their views, and feedback what you hear.
