Cathedral 'Light' show goes online as a gift to the city and county

After a long, dark winter, Leicester Cathedral has worked with international artistic collaboration Luxmuralis to create a free gift for the people of the city, county and those from further afield.

The stunning artwork called Light, is a specially produced son et lumière by artist Peter Walker and composer David Harper, which combines a beautiful fine art projection artwork with an originally composed musical accompaniment, projecting onto the façade and spire of Leicester Cathedral.

The short video is available to view for free online on the Cathedral YouTube channel here from 29 March to mark one of the first steps of our journey out of lockdown.

“Lockdown has been so hard with much loss and grief but we know light still shines. This is our gift of light to everyone in Leicester and Leicestershire,” said David Monteith, Dean of Leicester.

“We were hoping that Light would be a live in-person and full immersive event in Cathedral Gardens, but due to the change in Covid regulations and guidelines over the last few months, this had to be postponed. Working closely with Leicestershire Police, we decided, audience free and Covid safe, to record this event in order to create an online version.”

The Luxmuralis project has been funded by the Arts Council Cultural Recovery Fund.
