Bishop of Leicester's statement on Independent Inquiry into Child Sex Abuse Report on the Anglican Church

The Bishop of Leicester, the Rt Revd Martyn Snow has issued a statement after the publication of the Report on Anglican Church by the Independent Inquiry into Child Sex Abuse (IICSA):

Bishop Martyn said: “I welcome today’s IICSA Report which makes shocking and shameful reading. Its recommendations must be acted upon urgently so that there is greater accountability, a more transparent process which the public can trust, and more comprehensive support of the victims and survivors whom we, the Church, have failed.

“Progress has been made and I am proud of the improvements in Safeguarding processes within the Diocese of Leicester in recent years but the Church must do better still in this most important of matters; the protection of children and vulnerable adults. We all have a responsibility to pray and act in order to truly prioritise Safeguarding and to keep it at the heart of our mission and ministry as Christ's Church.

“For victims, survivors and anyone affected by this report and the issues it raises, there are details of support available on our Safeguarding web pages here including the new Safe Spaces service.”
