General Synod by-election

The General Synod elections which were due to be held in 2020 have been postponed until 2021 because of the pandemic.  Nonetheless there is currently a by-election taking place following the resignation of Jonathan Cryer who has been one of the three diocesan lay representatives on General Synod for the last five years.  The person elected will have the chance to attend two meetings of General Synod (November 2020 and July 2021) before the main elections take place in the autumn of 2021.

If you are interested to find out more about what a General Synod representative does or would like to receive a nomination form, please contact Andy Brockbank: , 0116 261 5312.

Any lay person on the electoral roll of a parish in the Diocese since at least June 2020 can stand in the elections if they meet the criteria which are:

  • You must have received communion in the Church of England in the last 12 months;
  • You must have been at least 18 before the end of June 2020; and
  • You must be confirmed or ready to be confirmed.
  • You must be proposed and seconded by lay members of a Deanery Synod in the Diocese (who don’t have to be from your Deanery).

Nominations close at 12 noon on Wednesday 14th October.

Our thanks go to Jonathan Cryer for his service over the last five years.
