How the Property Department can support you

The aim of the Property Department is to provide clergy and their families with suitable accommodation, and to assist them with the management of their homes. As far as possible, the property team strives to relieve clergy of domestic concerns in order that they may focus upon their pastoral responsibilities.

This aim is fulfilled by:

  • Providing suitable homes either through improvement, purchase or construction.

  • Carrying out an ongoing programme of repair and maintenance.

  • Working in partnership with clergy and parishes to ensure that all parties take responsibility for caring for the property.

  • Undertaking the above within the confines of the property budget.

The team works closely with the Diocesan Surveyor and the Archdeacons as well as contractors and of course, occupants of parsonage houses.

There are in excess of 150 properties within Leicestershire and every one is inspected at five yearly intervals as part of the quinquennial programme.

The Property Department is accountable to the Parsonages Committee, which meets six times a year.

Any problems, questions or comments should be directed to a member of the property team.

‘Clergy Housing Committee – How to get in Touch’

The Clergy Housing Management Committee is primarily a practical group whose role is to ensure that objectives as set out in the Repair of Benefice Buildings Measure are fulfilled and that housing provided for clergy and their dependants is of a good standard.  The group meets 4 times per year to monitor the varied work streams and to ensure that matters are dealt with efficiently, effectively and, importantly, within the allocated houses budget.  Membership comprises;

  • The Venerable Richard Worsfold, Archdeacon of Leicester (Chair)
  • The Venerable Claire Wood, Archdeacon of Loughborough
  • Revd Jane Micklethwaite, Priest-in-Charge of All Saints, Blaby.  Jane has lived in a variety of clergy houses in two different dioceses, as curate, vicar, and clergy spouse, navigating the challenges of growing children and teenagers!  She brings these varied experiences and perspectives to her input on the committee.
  • Revd Dave Hover, Priest-in-Charge of the parishes of Braunstone Town with Thorpe Astley and Leicester Forest East, just to the west of Leicester.  Dave has experienced living in diocesan housing as a single occupant and as an occupant living with spouse and dependants. He brings both these perspectives to his work on the Committee, where he is very much a voice for clergy and their dependants living in diocese-provided housing in relation how those properties are managed.
  • Mr Andy Willetts – Andy currently lives in clergy accommodation in Loughborough and brings this experience to the committee.

Also in attendance at these meetings are members of the property team and the diocesan surveyor who implement and oversee the various workstreams on a day to day basis.
