The following documents have now been officially withdrawn from the Church of England website, as they have been superseded by updated guidance and codes of practice:
- Parish Safeguarding Handbook
- Protecting All God’s Children
- Promoting a Safe Church (2006)
These documents are no longer in use, so please ensure that any printed copies are removed and securely disposed of.
All current safeguarding guidance is now available in the Church of England’s Safeguarding e-manual which should be your first point of reference for policy and practice.
The e-manual is regularly updated and includes links to relevant codes of practice and guidance. This e-manual contains the House of Bishops’ Safeguarding Guidance and Safeguarding Code of Practice. Each specific piece of Guidance / Code comprises a chapter of the e-manual. Each chapter has a picture and a brief explanation in a box underneath, but to access it you need to click on “Learn More” or “Go to Resources”, which is located at the bottom of each box which is sometimes well below the text.
The National Safeguarding Team are also developing a Parish Safeguarding Toolkit, which will offer practical “how-to” advice to support your work. This will be released in stages and is expected to be completed by January 2026.
