Grant opportunity- Second round of the Culture Recovery Fund open for applications

The second round of the Cultural Recovery Fund opens for applications on 7 January and will close on 26 January 2021.  This second round offers grants of between £10,000 and £3m to support organisations, including faith organisations that manage listed places of worship,  with the costs to make the transition towards full reopening, covering the period April-June 2021. The focus of the fund is on re-opening and welcoming people back – whether visitors, communities or commercial partners.

APCM Election Results

All DCC/PCC Secretaries should have received an email on Tuesday morning asking them to check that the list of PCC Officers that we have on the Database is correct and up-to-date following this year's APCMs.


Charity Commission plan to extend deadline for PCC registration

Following a recent consultation, the relevant government department (DCMS) has announced that it intends to lay a Statutory Instrument before parliament in early 2021 which if passed will extend the current exception for PCCs with annual income below £100k by another ten years\


Leicestershire Ride+Stride 2020 exceeds expectation

Despite everything that this year has thrown at the country the 31st Leicestershire Ride+Stride fundraising event went ahead on 12 September and proved ever popular raising an unexpected amount of money.


Notifiying us of your APCM Election Results

DCC/PCC Secretaries – or Parish Clergy where we know of vacancies as D/PCC Secretaries – will be sent an email in mid or late-November about how to do this. It will give the list of parish officers currently on the Diocesan Database and ask for their details to be checked and updated as appropriate. N.B. Please don't complete one of the forms that used to be sent out but wait for the email to be sent to you in November with new instructions.

General Synod by-election

The General Synod elections which were due to be held in 2020 have been postponed until 2021 because of the pandemic.  Nonetheless there is currently a by-election taking place following the resignation of Jonathan Cryer who has been one of the three diocesan lay representatives on General Synod for the last five years.  The person elected will have the chance to attend two meetings of General Synod (November 2020 and July 2021) before the main elections take place in the autumn of 2021.


Ride + Stride 2020

Ride+Stride on Saturday 12th September took place in perfect weather with people all over Leicester and Leicestershire registering at nearly 300 churches and chapels, travelling around by bike or on foot, and with at least two people on horseback.


Election of the 10th Bishop of Wyoming

Bishop John Smilie will be retiring in February 2021 and the Diocese of Wyoming is currently in the process of selecting their next Bishop.  The three candidates have been travelling around Wyoming to meet as many people as possible.  The Diocesan Convention, held on 19th September, will then elect their next bishop.
