The Bishop announces the death of The Revd John Gates, aged 75, on Sunday 25 December 2023.
John was ordained in Oxford in 1974, serving curacies in both Oxford and Chichester Dioceses until 1979. John served as Norwich’s Diocesan Youth Officer until 1982, then served in Leicester Diocese as vicar of St Michael and All Angels, Cosby, from 1982 until 1986, and later as Assistant Chaplain to The Resurrection, Bucharest, in the Diocese of Gibraltar in Europe from 1998 to 1999, before retiring in 2008. John held the Bishop’s Permission to Officiate in the Diocese of Leicester from 2015 until 2020.
He is survived by a loving wife, Barbara, and five adult children.
John’s funeral will be held at St Mary Magdalen, Knighton, at 11.30am on Thursday 26 January 2023, to which all are welcome
