The Two Rivers Mission Partnership was formed in February 2013 (out of churches in two previous Mission Partnerships discerning a new vision together). It was launched at a commissioning day with the Bishop of Leicester on 11th May 2013, at St James, Birstall, which involved representatives making pilgrimage walks to the church from each of the nine other churches in the partnership. The name reflects the geographical location across the valleys of the rivers Soar and Wreake.
Work already underway together includes sharing training workshops (such as pastoral care and first aid), running joint marriage preparation, hosting trial runs of courses to explore more about the Christian faith (Table Talk and Puzzling Questions), acting as a local centre for the diocesan Journey into Faith (JIF) course to grow as disciples and producing a regular partnership newsletter.
Future areas for exploration include further work on growing the number of disciples, further developing the changing role of clergy and work in schools (e.g. Open the Book and Godly Play). In short, they aim to work collaboratively together to develop every member ministry, share training, expertese and respurces and to thrive in mission in a changing context.
