Back to Church Sunday for Churches

Back to Church Sunday for Churches

last updated on: 16th Apr 2012

Research for development agency Tearfund that around three million people who have stopped going to church, or have never been, would consider attending given the right invitation. Since it was launched in 2004, more than 150,000 people have taken up those invitations to come back to church on Back to Church Sunday - enough to fill Wembley Stadium and the Emirates Stadium put together. In 2010, around 3,500 churches (from a range of different denominations) welcomed back 51,000 people on Back to Church Sunday.  In 2012 Back to Church Sunday is on 30th September and churches across Leicestershire and Leicester and encouraged to get involved.

How do we find out more and register our church?

To download a special leaflet with more information click here.

A simplified process

The registration and ordering process has been simplified (no more need for passwords, or need to register one month but wait to the next to order).  Registration and ordering is active now.  You can input your details http://www.backtochurch.co.uk/taking-part (in the drop down list under 'register your church' select Leicester Diocese) and then will get an instant link in your inbox to order.  For the first time this year all churches that register will appear on a map so those interested can simply find a church near them taking part.  Liturgical resources are also being refreshed, with sermon outlines, templates for services of the Word and Holy Communion and much more all available free from the website later in the Summer.  To allow us to understand who is doing Back to Church Sunday, to get your feedback and to direct those who contact us looking for a church in the right direction, please register each individual church separately – rather than as a team or benefice (even if resources are only ordered by one or even no churches in the team).

A simplified pack

The invitational pack is also simpler and cheaper than in previous years.  Each pack of 50 invitations/prayer cards costs just £10 (half the price of last year, but no longer containing the posters or gift cards as many churches fed back that they weren’t used).  New for this year is a event pack with balloons, bunting and a 2.5m long weatherproof banner available for just £80.  Hospitality and t-shirt packs remain available.  Once you register you’ll get a link to order resources from.
