Topping out at Brockington

On Thursday 3rd May 2007 The Bishop took part in the Topping Out Ceremony at the new Brockington College.
Surrounded by the builders, architects, school staff and governors he prayed" Bless O Lord all those involved in the construction of this new school building... We pray for the school community who will use it and the families it will support... We thank you for the skills and abilities offered by those who work here to provide for the future generations of our city...."
The old school is being replaced with a state of art building designed by BDP (Building Design Partnerships) and built by Marriot Construction responsible for the New Library at Leicester University, the Marriot Hotel in Leicester, the Fitzwilliam College in Cambridge and many other prestigious building Brockington College is due for occupancy Easter 2008, but is currently ahead of schedule! Vanessa Hood, Head teacher, hopes to be in a lot sooner. "Everyone is working so hard, and the children are really excited!" she said.
Pupils in the current building have enjoyed watching the building grow before their eyes, raising their excitement and expectation for a new learning environment. There are 900 children aged 10 -14 who will enjoy the better facilities the new school offers, ensuring the highest standards of education for this part of Leicestershire.
The Bishop was delighted to take part. "Our children deserve the best opportunities we can offer them as they learn to be full members of society. The physical environment is as important as the social, moral and educational environment, and I'm confident that the new Brockington College is going to be an excellent example of all of these!"
The Bishop was presented with and engraved trowel as a symbol of the creation of the new college.
The local vicar, Steve Davis was also present, and undaunted by the climb onto the roof, He too is looking forward to the new building and what it will mean to the children, staff and parents.
