Magazine winner announced by BBC Leicester

The winning magazine in the first BBC Radio Leicester Parish Magazine competition has been announced.

This is the Newtown Linford Magazine edited by Carole Heubeck.

The competition was launched on the station’s Sunday Breakfast programme at the end of last year.

The judges John Florance and Natalie Martin, respectively presenter and producer of the programme, were very pleased at the large entry.

‘We received about 70 magazines from a variety of denominations,’ said John ‘and we were genuinely impressed with their overall quality. All of them fulfil the vital function of keeping parishioners up to date with what is happening in the life of their churches and a great many did a good deal more than that.’

‘We were looking for good content, imaginative design and that extra something that makes a magazine exceptional,’ said Natalie. ‘It was difficult to arrive at a winner but the Newtown Linford magazine, which covers the Bradgate Team Parish, is a nicely produced, informative magazine and a very good read.’

Highly Commended was The Lantern, the Parish Magazine of St. Bartholomew’s, St. Andrew’s and St. Mary’s.

The editor of the winning magazine received a commemorative cup on the Sunday Breakfast programme of May 13. The presentation was made by Bishop Tim.
