600 people attended special service at cathedral
On 13 October, 600 people attended a service at Leicester Cathedral to license lay workers in the Diocese of Leicester.
Children’s workers, evangelists, pastoral assistants and readers came together for a joint service commending their work to God and the people of the churches; they were supported by family, friends and representatives of their churches.
This was the first time a joint service has been held.
The service was a celebration of the whole life of the Church, and of these special ministries in particular.
Entitled Called Together, it stressed the unity and purpose of the Church.
Bishop Tim Stevens, who conducted the service, said: "The Christian community is called to be a model for a new kind of humanity for the whole world, and this act of worship affirms the role these people have in the churches within our city and county."
