Brockington College opens as a stunning new school

On the 4th December 2007 the Bishop of Leicester, Rt Revd Tim Stevens, will open the new, purpose-built Brockington College in Enderby.

The new school is built in an eye-catching crescent shape and replaces the worn out old school which has reached the end of its life. The fifth Leicestershire High School to be replaced, Brockington, is a Voluntary Aided Secondary School. The school’s governors and staff were able to work closely with the architects Building Design Partnership (BDP) and the builders Marriott in creating the new building. The total cost which includes the demolition of the old school and landscaping the site is just under £20 million.

Worked started in July 2006 and the builders have delivered the new school two months earlier than scheduled. The school is built around a central courtyard and contains high tech teaching facilities. There is also a new sports hall as well as new youth and community provision.

Vanessa Hood, the Principal, said: “It has been wonderful to see all our planning become a reality in providing superb new educational opportunities for our pupils, staff and the local communities we serve. We certainly now have the facilities to deliver our new motto, ‘ Learning to Live Life to the Full.’”

Revd Canon Peter D Taylor, the Diocesan Director of Education, said: "This new church school building is an investment in the lives and opportunities of the children who will attend. It’s an inspiring new building which lifts the spirit and provides a much needed improved environment for the staff to continue to deliver the quality education for which Brockington College is known."
