The visit of Anglican bishop's to our Diocese before the Lambeth Conference and Bishop's Tim's attendance at the Lambeth Conference in Canterbury

Lambeth Conference

Bishop Tim will attend the Lambeth Conference at the University of Kent in Cathebury, along with over 600 of the Bishop of the Anglican Communion, from July 16th until August 3rd 2008.

Bishop Tim intends to write a regular account of his experience at the conference, and watch this space for a link to this blog.

For more details about the Lambeth Conference see their website www.lambethconference.org.

Pre-Lambeth hospitality

You may be aware already that a number of bishops and their spouses from around the Anglican Communion will be staying in our Diocese for a few days before the Lambeth Conference.

They will begin to arrive on Thursday 10th July and will leave for Canterbury on Wednesday 16th July. A programme of visits is being arranged to allow them to acclimatize, rest and familiarize themselves with the UK and the Church of England and life in our diocese.

Further details will be circulated in due course, but for now…

(1) If you have made an informal arrangement for a bishop to stay with you during this period, please would you be in contact with Alison Iliffe who is administering the Pre-Lambeth Hospitality in our Diocese. Alison can then make sure that Bishop Tim knows who is here and that all the visiting bishops are invited to a number of key events during the pre-Lambeth period. Alison can be contacted at ailiffe@talktalk.net.

(2) A date for your diaries: On Sunday 13th July at 4pm the Cathedral will host a event to which everyone in the diocese is invited. Entitled “God's Fragile World: Global views of climate change” this will be an opportunity to celebrate our life and faith together with Bishops from around the world, and join the debate about climate change.

Please would you publicise this date in your parishes as appropriate.

With many thanks,
Canon Michael Rusk, Chair of planning group
