Ride+Stride around our beautiful churches 21st Aug 2012 - 8,000 of some of England’s most beautiful churches are getting ready to showcase their history and architecture to visitors on Ride+Stride Saturday, 8 September 2012, an annual Open Day which raises money to repair historic churches. Ride+Stride was started in 1983 and since then over £29 million has been raised throughout England to support the repair of churches, with thousands of people enjoying a day out whilst raising funds to help preserve their local heritage. 5. Singing for Passion 21st May 2012 - When Churches work together great things can happen to support each other and the local community. Well the Churches together in Shepshed and Shepshed District Funeral Services have been working together and great things have been happening. 6. VAT on Church alterations 27th Mar 2012 - Unexpectedly the Chancellor announced in the Budget that from 1 October 2012 approved alterations to listed buildings – which, unlike repairs and maintenance are currently zero-rated - will be charged at the standard rate of 20 percent. This will cost the Church of England up to £20 million per annum on works to its 12,500 listed church buildings, assuming of course parishes and cathedrals can now afford to go ahead and undertake the works required. Wolfson Foundation support for Leicestershire Parish 27th Jan 2012 - St Michael's and All Angels in Appleby Magna has been awarded £5000 as one of 39 parishes offered grants by the Church Buildings Council and The Wolfson Foundation to support essential repair works to their church buildings, making it a very happy start to 2012.
