VAT on Church alterations VAT on Church alterations 27th Mar 2012 - Unexpectedly the Chancellor announced in the Budget that from 1 October 2012 approved alterations to listed buildings – which, unlike repairs and maintenance are currently zero-rated - will be charged at the standard rate of 20 percent. This will cost the Church of England up to £20 million per annum on works to its 12,500 listed church buildings, assuming of course parishes and cathedrals can now afford to go ahead and undertake the works required. Two parishes in Leicester celebrate £100,000 award Two parishes in Leicester celebrate £100,000 award 28th Nov 2011 - The Archbishops' Council and Church Commissioners have distributed £1million as part of a nationwide move to help develop successful church growth projects in deprived areas. The £100,000 grants have been distributed to 10 projects across nine dioceses where existing activity has a proven track record of growth. The funds are part of a wider research and development programme, a key aim of which is to ensure projects are evaluated to provide evidence of what is proving effective. Continue Reading

Food and Friendship at Christ the King Food and Friendship at Christ the King 8th Nov 2011 - A new lunch club is opening to help Beaumont Leys residents who are in need of a meal and some company. The club is being launched by Christ the King Church with funding from Beaumont Shopping Centre. The project needed over £1000 of funding to get the club up and running so Beaumont Shopping Centre stepped in to sponsor the first year of set up costs to the tune of £1360. Continue Reading
