VAT on Church alterations
27th Mar 2012 - Unexpectedly the Chancellor announced in the Budget that from 1 October 2012 approved alterations to listed buildings – which, unlike repairs and maintenance are currently zero-rated - will be charged at the standard rate of 20 percent. This will cost the Church of England up to £20 million per annum on works to its 12,500 listed church buildings, assuming of course parishes and cathedrals can now afford to go ahead and undertake the works required.

Your Torch Relay Needs You!
10th Jan 2012 - Market Harborough to Lubenham. Lubenham to Foxton. On to Kibworth. Continuing through Oadby. An evening celebration in Leicester. Next day on to Quorn, Loughborough, Hoton, Wymeswold. Then to Asfordby, Melton and onwards. With thousands expected to line the route, the torch relay is a huge opportunity for churches to “use the power of the Games to inspire change” (official 2012 vision). As part of the ongoing work of the nine main Christian denominations, a new taskgroup is being launched to meet this wonderful opportunity, but it needs people to be apart of it! Held Together Pilgrimage comes to an end
8th Dec 2011 - December 8th 2011 marked the end of our Held Together Pilgrimage marking 200 years of Church Schools. The Board of Education’s Cathedral service took place with children and representatives from 60 of our schools, 500 in total! Rhea Desai and Joshua Brown (pictured) from Church Hill, Church of England Primary School, Thurmaston, who were the last school to receive the carving. It will now have its permanent home in the Cathedral. Continue Reading
