On Saturday, 17th October, the Cathedral brought together the different lay ministries of the diocese in a service of celebration. New Readers were licensed, Pastoral Assistants, Evangelists and Children's workers renewed their vows and the life of the living church was celebrated. The overarching theme is that of all being sent out to minister, and returning to the 'common centre' in order to be renewed for the work God has called us to do, and the people he has called us to be, as part of His mission to the world.

Today, The Right Reverend Tim Stevens Bishop of Leicester signed the official contract with WW Brown and Sons of Market Harborough for the year long renovation and refurbishment of Launde Abbey. Bishop Tim said, “I am delighted to be signing the contract that signifies the start of the renovation of Launde Abbey. This project means a great deal to me and though I am aware that we still have to raise a considerable sum of money the support shown so far gives us all confidence this will be achieved. I would like to thank Ian Neale with all his project management expertise and building industry experience for taking on the project management role on a voluntary basis. I am also pleased that a long established local company with an understanding of the ethos of Launde have been selected to carry out this work.”

It’s a year since Hope Hamilton Church opened the doors for young people at ‘The Unit’ a converted retail premises in Hamilton. So we decided to look back and celebrate what’s happened.
During last autumn we opened for ‘drop-in’ style clubs, 3 times a week. The sessions were lively, and quite unstructured. 10-15 young people attended each session. Tom Cufflin, our church youth worker took the lead, with support from Phil White and Hope Hamilton Church members.

“St Martin’s House – can we fix it?”
Tenders came back near the beginning of last month, and the good news is that they were, as hoped for, very competitive, and the best one, on analysis, stacked up as genuine. That means we’re in the good position of having a preferred contractor, and a period of time within which we need to sort out a few things before making a definite decision to go ahead.
