Discovery Course

A Christian Discipleship Training Course for people who prefer to learn together about God from each other's experience.

If you want to learn more about God and your faith, and you like to learn by sharing experience, doing, or seeing and hearing then Discovery is for you.

This two year course designed for practical learners to explore their faith and gain life-skills.  This course acts as a foundation for future training within the diocese of Leicester.

The course is delivered locally, for 6 modules over the two years.

Module 1: You, Me and God
Module 2: Coming Closer to God
Module 3: Oh God, Why?
Module 4: Jesus and the first Christians
Module 5: Back to our roots
Module 6: Watch this space!

Discovery covers similar ground to the new Journey in Faith Course run by the East Midlands Training Partnership, but it does it more gently, taking two years instead of one.

Discovery will stretch and challenge - there are no text books (except for the Bible!) and no essays to write, but a creative learning log is kept.

Discovery is accepted by the Diocese as equally valid compared to other types of training for those who want to go on to Authorised Lay Ministries.

If you tend to think like this:
In pictures and in patterns of pictures which connect
Relying on memories
Be emotionally involved
Convert what you learn into memorable experiences (e.g. re-living a great trip out)

And tend to learn best by:
Being in groups
Acting together in community, not separately
Using imagination
Discovering from the bottom up
Having a laugh
Having unusual, unexpected or special events
Doing, having been shown
Having questions, visits, swapping stories, colour, exaggeration, catchy sayings

The Discovery we designed is for you – and by people like you.

The fee for Discovery is £15 per module, or £80 for the whole course.  Usually the local church pays this fee.  Please ask your minister / church leader if this is ok.
