Children and Families Officer

last updated on: 14th Feb 2012

This proposed post will focus on promoting, valuing and celebrating the place and contribution of young children (0-8 yrs) and their families in the life of the Christian communities of the diocese. (The officer will work closely with the Youth Ministry Officer who will have responsibility for the 8-18 age range). The officer will be focused on encouraging and enabling work among children, supporting children’s workers and projects in mission, seeking to promote opportunities for children and their families to experience the reality of God’s love through vibrant contact with the Christian community, greater participation in the life of the community and growing opportunities for Christian formation and nurture.

This will be a developmental post of three years in duration in the first instance, and will be a key way in which the diocese seeks to resource, encourage and equip the Christian communities of the family of the diocese to develop mission and ministry in this area, which recent research suggests is one of the most promising foci for mission.

Outcomes
The following outcomes over the next three years will be adopted in order to assess the relative successfulness of the post.

• Increasing and encouraging numbers of new initiatives engaging children and families across the diocese

• A growing network of (paid and voluntary) children and families workers
• Some Deaneries, Mission Partnerships and projects funding children and families work provision
