Canon Mary Lawson
Diocesan Director of Education

In her role, Mary:

  • Creates working partnerships within the whole of the Church School family, including clergy and lay, to maintain the overall purpose of securing the Christian dimension of education.
  • Develops closer working relationships between the DBE and other diocesan boards, committees and agencies.
  • Represents the Diocese in strategic partnerships with the Local Authorities.
  • Advises the Bishop on educational matters from General Synod, National Society, Department for Education and Local Authorities.
  • Liaises with governors, trustees, Local Authorities, Department for Education, Surveyors, Architects and Contractors to negotiate building programmes.
  • Represents the Bishop in the development of Church of England Academies in the Diocese.

Mrs Kerry Miller
School Support Officer
In her role, Kerry:
 

  • As first point of communication, helps build working partnerships with Church Schools and assists governors and headteachers to fulfil their statutory responsibilities.
  • Manages the process of appointing foundation governors.
  • Organises appeals for school places and she is responsible for ensuring school admission policies are in line with current legislation.
  • Provides advice and administrative support to schools for headteacher recruitment.

Mrs Helen Van Roose
School Inspections and Conference/Training Manager

In her role, Helen:

  • Manages School Inspections in Diocesan schools which involves training of inspectors, the initial critical read and processing the report. She liaises with the school, the inspector and the National Society.
  • Responsible for training and conferences for schools and their representatives.
  • Organises the annual Partnership RE Conference on behalf of the Local Authorities and NATRE. Further details of this and other courses are available under Conferences and Training courses

PLANNING SCHOOLS PROVISION SUB-COMMITTEE OBJECTIVES:
1. to oversee the scrutiny of the DBE financial position at regular meeting and to notify the DBE of any difficulties or envisaged problems
2. to annually review, on behalf of the DBE, the Reserves Policy and the Investments policy and carry out regular Risk management Assessment and report its findings to the DBE
3. to oversee the management of non-school trusts and properties
4. maintaining close and influential contact with key national bodies such as the Department for Education and the National Society through the DDE
5. acting as an effective strategic partner and provider with the two Children’s Services Authorities in Leicester and Leicestershire and other statutory agencies through the DDE
6. approving building projects that will enhance learning and teaching in Church schools
7. supporting work on school closures
8. responding to emerging school proposals about academy status or school partnerships/collaborations/federations in partnership and approve where relevant in consultation with relevant parties
9. working in partnership with local academies once they are established
to oversee the scrutiny of the DBE financial position at regular meeting and to notify the DBE of any difficulties or envisaged problems

6. contributing to the support for parish teams
7. working with parishes to identify, nurture, and develop high quality school governors
8. identifying and supporting training for Governors in Schools in our communities
9. Develop and support any FE Chaplaincy work

1. helping schools to increase the impact upon all pupils of Collective Worship, RE and global, spiritual, moral, social and cultural education
2. helping schools self evaluation for Section 48 inspections
3. supporting Collective Worship in schools
4. contributing to local key local authority SACREs
5. working with parishes and 2 local authorities to identify, appoint, nurture, and develop high quality school leaders (Succession Planning)
6. enhancing through the Partnership Agreement the impact of the Schools Team in equipping and supporting distinctive and inclusive church schools
7. providing a range of training activities for school leaders, staff and governors
8. ensuring all Diocesan Guidance and Policies are kept up to date and in line with current education provision
9. approving the appointment of Foundation Governors to our Church Schools
