Pioneer Ministry

One of the most exciting areas of growth and entrepreneurship in recent years has been the emergence of Fresh Expressions of Church. For more information on what these are visit: http://www.leicester.anglican.org/shaped-by-god/fresh-expressions-of-church/
Most Fresh Expressions of Church are likely to be led initially by teams of lay people rather than clergy and by volunteers rather than paid staff. The diocese has recently committed itself to a new form of licensing so as to best support those in these challenging and innovative roles. This commitment includes giving the Bishop’s license those leading Fresh Expressions as ‘Pioneer Ministers’ (to give ‘power to their elbow’ within the parish church); to train them and pay for that training; to give Pioneer Ministers an annual grant at the same level of clergy to finance their ongoing support and development; and to create learning and support networks for them. This is a major new investment, one which fits with the recent re-launch last month of Mission Shaped Ministry, an 18 month training course across the Church of England and Methodist Church’s in Leicestershire and Northamptonshire.
