Offering support and resources for the building of God’s Kingdom worldwide

“World Development” is working towards economic justice and an end to global poverty.

The Diocese of Leicester World Development Group was formed in the early 1980s to raise issues of inequalities and injustice in the world through committed giving and development education. The Group now feels it wants to concentrate on giving support to those within every parish in the Diocese who have a heart for global righteousness and justice, through a network, communications and resources that enable each parish to enter into prayer and other activities that grow Kingdom values across the globe. This will then strengthen the work of the Diocese in global concern.

World Development network
By using emails, this website and Facebook the World Development Group invite you to be part of this network.
The intention is to list on this webpage links to prayers, news and resources that members of the network can opt into, and through the Facebook page, maintain a discussion and respond to requests that will enable the growth of this network.
In building such a network the group wants to be able to represent the issues of global justice within the Diocese at all levels knowing there are likeminded Christians throughout the city and county.

The Group
The management Group consists of people from around the Diocese, the Cathedral and Christian Aid.

History of the Group
The Diocese of Leicester World Development Group was formed in the early 1980s to raise issues of global concern about inequalities and injustice. It launched a Diocesan 1% appeal in 1983 which over the years raised £250,000. 80% of this income went to Christian Aid in support of water projects, 10% to the World Development Movement for its campaigning and advocacy work, 10% for Development Education work within the Church of England locally and nationally.
The appeal was wound up at the end of 2011 and donors were encouraged to give directly to Christian Aid.
