Bishops visit marks the start of major refurbishment works at Launde Abbey
Bishop Tim Stevens will be visiting Launde Abbey on September 6th 2007 to mark the start of the major refurbishment work on the Georgian stable block at the abbey. The Bishop will erect a sign detailing the refurbishments which will see the conversion of the existing 14 bedrooms into all en suite accommodation, as well as the addition of five further en suite bedrooms.
Launde Abbey has been shortlisted in the best tourism experience category of the East Midlands Enjoy England Excellence Awards 2007 and these additions will offer guests an even higher standard of hospitality.
The abbey, a former Elizabethan manor house and the retreat house for the Diocese of Leicester, attracts several thousand visitors a year from all over Great Britain, Europe and America and is one of the few remaining retreat houses in the country, offering guests a haven of peace and calm, away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
Tim Blewett, Launde Abbey's Warden, said: "Guests have always been able to enjoy a high standard of hospitality and warmth at Launde Abbey, but these refurbishments will allow us to offer even greater standards of comfort to our guests, in what will be very modern and up to date facilities. We are delighted that Bishop Tim will be here to share this special day with us."

Launde Abbey is the residential retreat house for the Diocese of Leicester, offering Christian hospitality to all people, with or without faith. It provides an oasis of calm which allows both individuals and groups time to reflect upon where they are and what they are called to be in today's ever changing world; a place where people can come to learn about themselves and others.
